It's Back

What's back you ask? The writing bug has bitten me again. I thought I squashed it. I thought I exterminated that little critter once and for all. It's no use. There's nothing that can stop it. You may also ask "why would you want to squash the writing bug?" The last time it bit me, I won a couple of short story contests and actually have one that will be published in the next year or so. The problem is, this is where I wind up spending way too much time-

I have tons of notebooks just like that filled with stories, devotions and poems. I keep saying "one day, I'll do something with them." Surely God didn't give me the desire to write just to torture me with a never-ending stream of ideas that wake me in the middle of the night!

I finished a children's story about a rainbow this morning - my kids are always my guinea pigs when I finish a children's story! I loved it, the kids loved it, now what to do with it is always the question. There's a story behind this story. For over a week I have felt the need (yes, NEED) to write either a poem or story about a rainbow. My entire family had to endure this crazy rainbow talk for a week. I started out with a poem . . . it was horrible . . . I threw it away and gave up . . . family was relieved. Sunday morning as we were sitting in church, a picture of a huge rainbow suddenly popped up on the screen as the background to the lyrics of the song we were singing. Darrell and Zach immediately looked over at me with sheer terror that I was going to go back into "rainbow mode!" I sat down this morning and prayed and wrote my story. It felt right. So to my family: no more rainbow talk, I promise!

How fun to write stories and poems. I have always wanted to write a children's book. What a goose bump experience at church...it was a sure sign, indeed. :)
